Bryan Ruby has big feelings and a lot of shit to do on his brand-new single “Return a Ring.” Ruby has a big voice to match — if you’re not familiar with his work. Ruby’s first album, Diamonds are Forever, is a fond farewell to his years spent playing professional baseball (mostly internationally or in the independent leagues.) On his new song, unfortunately, Ruby is tossing out a different diamond.

“This song means a lot to me,” says Bryan Ruby. “It’s a deep dive into the vulnerability of letting go and finding closure after heartbreak. I poured my heart into every lyric and melody, hoping it resonates with listeners and helps them on their own journey to healing.”

In classic country fashion, the song is bouncy and filled with zingers — turning tragedy into a pain that can be danced away. Ruby is prepping his next collection of songs, and they promise to be more openly queer — but also the same trademark approach to songwriting and catchy ’90s-inspired hooks that have been propelling Ruby’s music all along.

Ruby made history in September 2021 when he became the only active professional baseball player to come out as gay at the time. The inspirational story was featured in USA Today as well as 100+ media outlets around the world including CBS, Yahoo, Bleacher Report and Teen Vogue. He then founded Proud To Be In Baseball, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to advocating, educating, and creating opportunities for the next generation of LGBTQ baseball players. Ruby’s nonprofit work has earned him a spot on Out Magazine’s prestigious Out 100 list and the Rising Star award from the Foundation For Love & Acceptance in Nashville.

“Return A Ring” will be available on all streaming services tomorrow, June 7th. You can pre-save it here.
