NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Heavy rain and strong winds cleared the stands at the Nashville Sounds home opener at First Horizon Park Tuesday night.

An earlier round of heavy rain forced the ground crew to break out the tarp to protect the field before it was time to play ball.

“I was watching the weather all day. I was just keeping my fingers crossed that the rain held off and the tornadoes too, but it all looks good, knock on wood,” said country musician Bryan Ruby.

Country singer Bryan Ruby was supposed to sing the national anthem, but had to cancel at the last minute due to technical issues.

While Ruby decided to take in the game, Nashville Mayor Freddie O’Connell canceled his plans to throw out the first pitch.

FOX 17 News spoke with season ticket holders who told us the weather was not going to stop them.

Wouldn’t miss the Sounds home opener even if the weather tried to cancel it on us,” said Sounds fan, Trey Barber.

"I checked the Facebook post one more time before we left and we drove on in from Lebanon and just looking forward to a great night of sounds baseball,” added Sounds fan, Tanya Jordan.

The Sounds delayed the game at the top of the 6th inning, but got back underway at 9:15 Tuesday night.
