CELEB SECRETS: Sarahbeth Taite Gets Real About Releasing New Music and Being an Artist Postpartum (Exclusive)

By JULIET SCHRODER

Being a mom while pursuing your true passion isn’t an easy mountain to climb, but Sarahbeth Taite isn’t letting anything slow her down.

The budding country songstress, who welcomed her daughter back in 2022, has been working harder than ever to continue telling her story that reflects on her latest chapter of her personal life while blending everything she loves with a traditional country sound.

Set to drop her EP The Way We Started on August 23rd, Taite is giving fans yet another taste of what they can expect from her newest project by releasing her song “First Rodeo” today (July 12).

Co-written by Taite along with Grant Vogel and Scott Stepakoff and produced by 3x GRAMMY Award-winning Nathan Chapman and ACM Song of the Year nominee Parker Welling, “First Rodeo” is a traditional country tune that cleverly flips the common phrase “this ain’t my first rodeo” on its head, posing the question, “what was your first rodeo, then?”

“We were in a writing session and I was extremely pregnant… I think this was the very last write that I did before I went in for my C-section. Grant [Vogel] came in with the idea, and it’s funny because I feel like this title is something that you feel like you’ve heard a million times,” Sarahbeth recalls to Celeb Secrets.

“We’ve obviously heard that song over and over again about how this is not your first rodeo, and he said, ‘has anybody ever written a song where it’s about the time and the person that was your first rodeo?’ So we all just honestly jumped on it immediately because we felt like it was a different take on something that you think is cliché and that you think you’ve heard it a million times. We’re just really proud of how it turned out; it’s a really beautiful, fresh take on something.”

Transporting listeners back to their first love that they kind of believed would last forever, the track captures the universal experience of putting one’s all into a relationship, only for that love to become their first heartbreak.

Taite began teasing The Way We Started by releasing “Pretty Good Living” and “Diamond and a Baby,” and says the process of sharing new music has been “so special.”

“It really is like a weight lifted off your shoulders — it’s stressful and there’s always a little bit of nerves that go along with it, but it’s so special to finally have other people listen to what we’ve been listening to for months,” Sarahbeth shares.

And while gearing up for a project release is always demanding, the singer/songwriter is also juggling the responsibility of being the matriarch of her family, which sometimes brings uncertainty of what’s next for you in the industry.

“I felt like maybe people in the industry weren’t going to take me seriously after having my daughter. There was so much uncertainty for me about my new personal life and how that would even fit with my career,” Taite reveals.

“I remember just going back into my writing rooms during that time, and it was just this really clear vision for me of telling myself, ‘Hey, if I’m going to spend time away from my family, I’m going to make the most of this and tell stories that I would want to hear as the life I’m living. Maybe instead of being worried about what people think of me chasing a career and raising a family, maybe I’ll just be honest about all the things that I’m doing and maybe that will actually end up being what’s most important.'”
